چکیده

The problem of assigning centrality values to nodes and edges in graphs has been widely investigated during last years. Recently, a novel measure of node centrality has been proposed, called j-path centrality index, which is based on the propagation of messages inside a network along paths consisting of at most j edges. On the other hand, the importance of computing the centrality of edges has been put into evidence since 1970s by Anthonisse and, subsequently by Girvan and Newman. In this work we propose the generalization of the concept of j-path centrality by defining the j-path edge centrality, a measure of centrality introduced to compute the importance of edges. We provide an efficient algorithm, running in O(jm), being m the number of edges in the graph. Thus, our technique is feasible for large scale network analysis. Finally, the performance of our algorithm is analyzed, discussing the results obtained against large online social network datasets. 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Kirchhoff Index as a Measure of Edge Centrality in Weighted Networks: Nearly Linear Time Algorithms

Estimating the relative importance of vertices and edges is a fundamental issue in the analysis of complex networks, and has found vast applications in various aspects, such as social networks, power grids, and biological networks. Most previous work focuses on metrics of vertex importance and methods for identifying powerful vertices, while related work for edges is much lesser, especially for...

A Novel Approach for Detecting Relationships in Social Networks Using Cellular Automata Based Graph Coloring

All the social networks can be modeled as a graph, where each roles as vertex and each relationroles as an edge. The graph can be show as G = [V;E], where V is the set of vertices and E is theset of edges. All social networks can be segmented to K groups, where there are members in eachgroup with same features. In each group each person knows other individuals and is in touch ...

A Fast Approach to the Detection of All-Purpose Hubs in Complex Networks with Chemical Applications

A novel algorithm for the fast detection of hubs in chemical networks is presented. The algorithm identifies a set of nodes in the network as most significant, aimed to be the most effective points of distribution for fast, widespread coverage throughout the system. We show that our hubs have in general greater closeness centrality and betweenness centrality than vertices with maximal degree, w...

A Generic Axiomatic Characterization of Centrality Measures in Social Network

Centrality is an important notion in complex networks; it could be used to characterize how influential a node or an edge is in the network. It plays an important role in several other network analysis tools including community detection. Even though there are a small number of axiomatic frameworks associated with this notion, the existing formalizations are not generic in nature. In this paper...
